Come with us on the journey to re-skin the outside of our 18 metre long houseboat...and watch us get distracted along the way.

Windows

We decided on timber framed double glazed windows from Jeld-Wen. Bought from the friendly guys at Selco (hello Glenn!) They came ready primed in a fetching shade of peach, not sure why. The windows are longer and narrower than our current ones, so there will be lots of holes to fill inside and outside the boat.

What's under the Mr Man tiles?

This is the opposite side of the boat as it looks now. The tiles are a nice dark olive green colour but we really want to restore the boat to its original look. We've had a look underneath the felt tiles and the colour of the old wood is nice, but it's too shabby even for Jeremy!
The other issue is that we really have to think about the practicalities of working on the 'water' side of the boat...it certainly won't be while sitting in our rowing boat like Jeremy is here.

The first casualty

I fell in the canal today and we've not even started properly yet! I was pulling off the felt tiles to expose the old tongue and groove. I had one foot on the boat and one on the bank and I lost my balance and ended up in canal water up to my knees!

Ducklings

Yesterday 12 ducklings dropped down from the roof of the shed and followed their mum over to the canal.

Today we start work on the exterior of the houseboat.
